Mainline
loading ... When looking at replacing your existing mainline or just simply looking to spool a new carp reel there are a few things you should consider before checking out.
• The size of your water and the distance you will need to cast.
• The clarity of the water you will be fishing.
• The lake / club rules whether braid is allowed or banned.Fluorocarbon itself is a fantastic innovation for all us carp anglers but is only suited for certain fishing situations although its constantly being improved it still has its limitations, fluorocarbon does not seem to fair well when attempting to cast the longer distances sometimes needed to reach carp holding up further out. Another problem when using fluorocarbon is it can tend to ping off the spool in the higher breaking strains so would advise using the lowest diameter to breaking strain that is required for your own fishing, on saying all this fluorocarbon is outstanding for close range work and sinks like an absolute brick keeping well out the way of those wary carp, not to forget the superb light refraction properties fluorocarbon boasts making it almost invisible when submerged in water.
Monofilament is one those lines that suits all possible fishing situations, you cannot go wrong with a decent line such as Daiwa Sensor which is reasonably priced and a good solid line that has been with us for years still standing the test of time. Another recommend line is Korda Adrenaline which flies of the spool like a dream and can go a hell of a long way, the concerns with Adrenaline is it can take a while to submerge but this shouldn't be a problem with patients and letting the line settle before placing this on your bite alarms and bobbins.
Braid is a good line used in the right situations and if you know how to handle it, there is zero stretch in braid so it's not forgiving like monofilament which has the capability to stretch, cushioning some of the work. Braid is more suited for casting long distances on good smooth lakebeds or close in work fishing tight to snags, This is where the zero stretch comes in to force showing bite indication a lot faster than your standard monofilament or fluorocarbon would.
