British Schoolboy Strikes Gold

16 year old Nick Richards went fishing for Carp and was shocked when he hooked into an absolute record breaker. Nick eyes must have lit up when he saw the orange beast emerge. The fish, weighing in at 5lbs and certainly worth its weight in gold is thought to have started life out as a pet in a lowly round bowl but when it grew too big someone must have released it into the pond.

The fish is thought to be the biggest fish of its kind caught in British waters. Nick age 16 and still at school from Camberley in Surrey, said: “From all the angling groups I have contacted there seems to be no record for this specific type of goldfish as it is an ornamental fish. IT’s not native to UK waters and is not a coarse fish, but as a goldfish it certainly is a very, very big one!

Nick was in Poole in Dorset when he noticed the flash of orange under the water and evidently, as you would he noticed that this fish was not small. The gold fish is a small member of the carp family and in Latin is known as Carassius auratus auratus. Some Goldfish have been known to grow up to 18inches long and can live up to 40 years. I think you can safely say that this is one fish that Nick won’t forget for the next 40 years!
